Garbage Bowl kicks off Montreal West’s 100th birthday

IT WAS A COLD, ICY DAY, but that didn’t stop 250 fans and the 26-plus football aficionados from attending the 48tb Garbage Bowl New Year’s Day. The Southern Bombers. made up mostly of people below the CP tracks, took on and beat the Northern Combines, made up of people living north of the tracks. The final score was 33 to 12. It was the Bombers 26th win over the Combines. The game also kicked off Montreal West’s 100th anniversary of becoming a municipality. The town’s centennial means some 35 other events will take place during the year. Tbey include the Gala on Jan. 10, Winterfest celebrations, an old fashioned carnival and a centennial auction.
